Whirlwind Weekend

Watch the video
We left at 10 a.m. Saturday, flew to Burbank to see my friend Jimmy's much-acclaimed one-man show, and were home at 10 p.m. Sunday. But we managed to pack a lot in during that time.

Lost!

Watch the video
It seemed to simple. All I had to do was take the dog to the kennel to spend the weekend. It was 6 miles away. How could I get lost?

Thank You #2

Watch the video

This thank you goes out to the first woman (other than my mother), who really made a difference in my life.

It's been frustrating because my ISP has been down, so I wasn't sure if I was going to be able to post this at all...but after only 24 hrs, I'm back in business again!

Mounting Frustration

Our network has been down for more than 12 hrs and I can't reach anybody at tech support, so I am without any way to post a video. Our cable box was fixed yesterday morning (after a frustrating hour for the technician) and is out again this morning. The heat wave continues and they are expecting to have to have rolling blackouts today. All of California is burning up and even if I wanted to get out of town, there is nowhere to go.

Yes, I know that compared to so many parts of the world, this is small potatoes, but at the moment, I am on the brink of a scream. I can use my slow laptop and my AOL account, but this laptop is so antiquated that I can't even pick up G-mail because it won't connect to that service. So no email. No Internet. No TV.

This has all the earmarks of a very bad day.

Thank You Week

Watch the video

There has been a suggestion that we have a "thank you week" for videobloggers to have a chance to thank some people in their lives. I gave some thought about what I'd like to do, who I'd like to thank, and so this is my introduction to Thank You Week, wherein I explain what is to come in the next few days.

This is another movie the kids made years ago. They were the masters of chase and fight scenes. This one has an element of sci fi about it.

A Face of Alzheimers

Watch the video
I actually posted this video before (which is already in "flash" format), but it's of my Aunt Barb, and for those who haven't seen it before, I wanted to include it with my journal entry for today, http://www.funnytheworld.com/2006/Jul/21.htm, which is actually a piece that was written by Barb.

She's Here

Watch the video
Anybody who has read my journal for any length of time will understand why the kids thought this was so funny to make.

People in this are Ned and one of our Brasilian visitors, Enrique. (Enrique was a guy who called me from the Greyhound station in Davis, having come here because someone he knew had read that we hosted foreign students. We invited him to come to dinner--and he stayed 5 months. One of my fondest memories is watching Enrique teaching David and Tom the Brasilian martial art, capoeira.)

#721

Watch the video
We went to see the Phillies defeat the Giants today, but at least we were there when Barry Bonds hit home run #721. And we got a day out of the heat!

No video today

The journal entry that I will be posting later today has links to so many different videos that I decided not to post one of my own videos today. I'll wait until I have some footage of our trip to San Francisco for the Giants game.

Paul and Audra

Watch the video
A long time ago, I posted footage from Tom and Laurel's wedding; recently I uploaded footage from Ned & Marta's wedding. Now here is Paul and Audra's wedding. It was the most unusual of all. In case you can't tell when you watch it, the "ring bearer" is a smiley-face doll who makes his entrance down a suspended wire hung over the aisle of the courtyard where the wedding was being held. This is the kind of thing you do when all of the participants in the wedding are either performers or technicians, or both!

The video shows only the ceremony itself. I made the wedding cake for this wedding, too, and since Paul and I had a running gag about smiley faces, the entire cake was decorated in little tiny smiley faces.

Doves

Every year for the past many years, several families of doves have laid eggs and raised offspring in a hanging basket on my mother's front porch. I have always gotten there either just as the eggs have been laid or just after the babies have left. This is the very first year I have actually seen babies in the nest.

Schnapps

Watch the video
My cough started the day before we left for Santa Barbara and by the time we got there, it had pretty much settled in for the duration. My sister-in-law had just returned from Denmark and said they had given her schnapps and it had "cured her cold." I figured it was worth a shot. Since everybody had at least a slight cough, we all tried it.

The Making of "The Thief"

Watch the video
As Tom says, "Ned makes movies; Mom records life," so here is my "documentary" about Ned making his video at the picnic. It turns out that the footage I had taken by FAR exceeded what he had taken, but I've pared it down to a relatively brief version which shouldn't bore people to tears, I hope.

The Thief

Watch the video

We have returned from Santa Barbara.  While we were there, Ned couldn't pass up the opportunity to make a video during the big barbeque.  Tom put it very well:  "Mom records life; Ned makes movies."  He also said that if we had two video cameras, Ned would make a movie and I would document the making of the movie.  Well.  I did.  That that will take more editing and I'll post THAT video later.  In the meantime, enjoy Ned's work.

It always amazes me that he shoots these things at one time.  Rehearses scenes over and over again, then shoots them, and when he comes to the end of the movie, no editing is required--just take it from the camera and post it.
