New Dogs

Watch the video
We have Mini, the chihuahua who is biting everybody because she's still in pain from her recent spay, and Happy, who is aptly named. Both new fosters. Will one of them join the family?

Boxes

Watch the video
Is this a human, or a very strange looking muppet?

In the Bush

Watch the video
In the interest of total honesty, I didn't take this video. My friend Peggy took it for me, to remind me of the days when the two of us ran her two dogs in the bush near her home in Perth. Keno was a very old dog at the time this video was made (in 2004) and has since died. But it still was fun to find this in my collection and to remember the wonderful times we had together in Australia back in 2003.

Young Kimba (again)

Connie asked that I run "Young Kimba" again, and so I am doing that. I don't think I'll watch it this time around, tho.

No video today

I spent yesterday fretting about Kimba and couldn't even think about doing anything with video, so there will be no video today.

It feels funny sitting here at my desk without her sleeping in her little "cave" next to me. But at least I know she's not hurting any more.

Kimba's Last Day

Watch the video
We've agreed that today is "the day" for Kimba.? She has become progressivly feeble and in more pain.? She's reached the point where she can hardly move and is not eating.? I took this video a couple of hours before taking her to the vet.

I spent the day at the SPCA Adopt-a-Thon in Sacramento. We adopted 12 dogs and 1 cat, so it was a pretty good day!

Windy Day

Watch the video
Today was very windy, with gusts of wind up to 40 mph. I just went out and took some "wind" shots.

Relevant Dinner

Watch the video
It used to be called "Dinner at the Dump" because at the time it was held in the Wast Removal Plant, but now it's been moved to a strip mall and is called "The Relevant Dinner" because it benefits a shop, All Things Right and Relevant, which raises funds for mental health projects in town. Music! Food! Old Friends!

Monkey Mia

Watch the video

Three years ago, I was standing in the aqua blue waters of the Indian Ocean with dolphins cavorting about my feet. It hardly seems possible.

Monkey Mia is the place ("Mia" is the Aboriginal word for "place") where the ship "Monkey" docked in Shark Bay, about halfway up the western coast of Australia.

Sometime in the 1960s bottleneck dolphins started visiting the Bay and interacting with humans. Over the years the keepers of the park have worked this habit of the wild dolphins into a tourist attraction. Up to 25 dolphins have been known to visit. They come on their own and are fed up to 3 times a day between 8 a.m. and 1 p.m. They don't feed them after 1 because they don't want them to become dependent on humans for food.

The Jets

Watch the video
In 1987, my son Paul played Riff in his high school production of West Side Story. I found the videotape today and was pleased to discover that the production was as good as I remembered it as being. I made a video of a couple of the songs and will post one tonight and one other one tomorrow.

Under the sea

Watch the video

This brief video was taken at the Aquarium Western Australia (AQWA), outside Perth. We were in a tube moving around through the waters and the mood is enhaned by the background music, I think.

Cavorting with Kangaroos

Watch the video
I may have posted this a long time ago, but I'm feeling in a reflective mood because it was 3 years ago at this time that I was cavorting with kangaroos in Australia. This was taken at Caversham Wild Animal Park outside Perth. The person speaking is my friend, Peggy.

But MOM! I want to play!

Watch the video
This is actually a duplicate, but some may not have seen it before. Three years ago, at this time, I photographed my first kangaroo in Australia. Not THESE kangaroos (these came later--and Peggy videotaped these), but I love this video, so I'm posting it to remember what things were like three years ago.

Ciocolat

Watch the video
I had a meeting today at a cafe called "Ciocolat." Turns out I got the time wrong and arrived 30 minutes too soon, and had left my book at home, so I just made a brief video about the "ciocolat" desserts!

Buy me some peanuts and crackerjack

Watch the video

The modern baseball stadium is a cornucopia of food choices. No longer just hot dogs, beer and peanuts. We went to see the San Diego Padres clobber the Giants today and since we arrived at AT&T stadium early, I decided to take inventory of just how many different food booths I could find.

It was also the Giants' tribute to 9/11 and they honored a lot of police, firemen, etc. The National Anthem was sung by one of the local police officers while there was a fireboat out in SF Bay giving a salute.

Baby doves are nearly ready to leave the nest. I was fortunate to be at my mother's for feeding time and a bit of wing testing.

We went out into the Yolo Bypass last night to watch 1/4 million bats fly off into the sunset.

Young Kimba

Watch the video
We are starting to think about when to decide Kimba's quality of life has deteriorated to the point where it's cruel to continue to keep her alive. In the midst of the decision, I came across this video of her, taken when she was about 3 years old. It's hard to remember that she was ever this active (and this is considerably less active than when we got her 2 years before)

Sold!

Watch the video

If you want to really understand this video (and the in-jokes), you should read the back story on my journal, but basically this was taken in 1993 when our friends had sold their house and had a "house cooling" before they packed up to leave.

It had been a part of our "group" for over 20 years, through two different families, and our kids--and everybody else's kids were now grown up, but had good memories of the times they spent as little kids in the house.

This "stars" our son, Paul, and my friend's son Cam and...well...I'm mainly posting this for all the Pinata kids who might like to see it again.

When Grandma Turned 80

Watch the video
My mother-in-law just turned 94 and is now blind and living in assisted living, but when she was 80, we had a big "surprise BBQ" for her, with lots of friends, many of whom she had known most of her life.
